i would definatly tell them.then if for some reason if you don't get the results you want, maybe you can repeat or something?
that was GRUESOME!
I are agree with SeanThis movie was so powerful. I like how they don't tell you if Paul is a twin or a schizo aspect of Eli's. This movie made Daniel Plainview my idol. Taking into consideration what a flawed sack of shit Plainview was is parts of the movie, it speaks volumes for Daniel Day-Lewis' abilities. I'm glad that I have already seen it so I could comment on the review. Well done.
Without knowing you it's hard to say if this is just normal forgetfulness – like whether the book you read wasn't very interesting and you just weren't paying attention or that you really are losing your memory in a serious way (do you drink or use any drugs – that never helps?).
Anyway if you are seriously worried you should see a proper doctor and get some tests done- losing your memory at your age can't be a good sign.
That link was rather interesting. I couldn't believe that the issue of global cooling was on the surface of environmental problems.I guess it opens our eyes to the real problem of cyclic variations of the temperature.I believe what needs to be done, is scientists taking into consideration those views of 'cooling' and make sure we are prepared for both phenomena depending on the time period in which they will occur.
Hi Kelly:
Super interesting response.
A couple of days ago, at the New York Tech Meetup, I got to give a talk about Game-Based Marketing (my new book) – . At the outset of the discussion, I asked the ~700 folks in the room how many of them thought “playstation” vs “Foursquare” when I used the word “game”. The ratio was 10:1, as you might expect.
The reason for asking the question was to illustrate the semantic evolution of the word “game”. In the space of a year, Foursquare (and its ilk) have redefined what game means to some people, and that effect shouldn't be understated.
Similarly, our notions of what's fun (and its corollary – work) are in flux. Just because something doesn't seem amenable to the addition of fun (and the game mechanics that power that emotion), doesn't mean it isn't going to happen. Whether it's fitness (Wii Fit), learning/memory exercises (Brain Age), or even just checking in for a social network, I'm confident we won't be drawing many of those hard and fast lines going forward.
While you might be concerned that fun can interfere with the utility of an application or website, I urge you to consider this: what if fun is the principal utility of your website or application? It's not an adjunct, but core – not a nice-to-have, but a requirement. Much as a frequent flyer program is essential to any airline, so too game mechanics are likely to become elemental in most industries.

This is a very controversial topic. I am in favor of the ability grouping for the gifted learner because they have the same rights to learn and develop their abilities as the average and slow learners do. Many teachers and researchers are in favor of the heterogeneous grouping because they are just looking at the benefits for the slow learners; but they are not taking into consideration the needs of gifted learners. In a direct or indirect way, they are stopping the development of precious minds. I think that the gifted learners should also be given an opportunity to benefit from an environment of higher level learning.
Agreed. My main point was, the constant comparison to the Great Depression is fostering a panic that is unreasonable. This is more like the 1980s recession.
But taking population into consideration, per captia GDP is around $8000 during the Great Depression. For us now it is about $33000. All in 2000 dollars. So taking that into consideration, we would have to lose 3/4s of our economy for that to happen.
1) The whole candidate score by which selection decisions are made is composed:
60% Academic Profile = PAR + ACT/ SAT Scores.
PAR(Prior Academic Record) = Weighted GPA + Class Rank based on Weighted GPA
20% Extracurricular Profile=Athletic participation, leadership positions(scouts, school club, class officer etc public/community involvement, wok experiences).
20% Admissions Board= ALO Interview, CFA(candidate fitness assessment), Writing Sample, Letters of recommendation from HS Math and English teacher, Summer Seminar Element Leader's written evaluation.
See Pie Chart on Top of page 7 of current Usafa catalog. Suggest reading entire chapter on admissions. The selection process is essentially identical at Usna, Usafa and Usma.
Avg unwtd GPA = 3.83, Class Rank of 48/188 = 75th percentile. 82% of Class was above the 75th percentile.
See Class of 2013 profile:
PAR is quite a bit below average especially in terms of class rank, unless school is particularly competitive as measured in percentage of students continuing on to a 4 year university. A low PAR can be compensated by relatively high SAT/ACT scores in the Academic Composite, but a 560 CR is well below the 25th percentile score of 600. The middle 50% range CR is 600-680. Middle 50% range Math is 630-700.
While each separate component of the Academic composite might be qualifying, a relatively low PAR and relatively low Test scores are not likely to be competitive. The main issue that can be addressed is the SAT CR score that is being predicted from the PSAT score. Only two AP classes senior year is quite a bit below average unless this is all that is offered at the school.
As far as the extracurricular composite, Captain of Football team as a Junior is significant leadership. 2/3 of each service academy class have been athletic team captains. Class Treasurer also is great for leadership as is CAP. Billy Mitchell or higher is considered significant leadership. NHS membership is considered leadership and 2/3 of each class have been NHS members. No community service is mentioned.
2) Start prepping for and taking SAT and ACT exams till SAT CR scores are in competitive range. There are 3 SAT exams left this year. Do at least enough community service to apply for and be selected for NHS membership. Find out how to compete for Boy's State at your school. Even being selected alternate looks great on applications. Competition is probably taking place at the present time. The Service Academies recruit at Boy's State. The air force academy offers great advice on prepping for any service academy, rotc scholarship or any highly selective university:
[Be sure to open all link to the left of the dialog box. Full CFA instructions are available at the end of the physical prep link.]
3)It means as it states "application is under consideration." All decisions are not made till after Summer seminar closes to applications. My friend sent his in on Dec 1 and was not notified he was accepted till Feb 1. In contrast, he sent in an application to West Point SLS just after it opened on Dec 14 and was notified of acceptance between Christmas and New Years. Usafa only invites 1125 to Summer Seminar.Usma invites 1000. Usna invites 2250. It is best to apply to all to hope to be accepted to at least one. Over 50% invited to Usafa and Usma are offered appointments. Typically students offered Summer Seminar at Usafa and Usma are in LOA range in terms of scholastic qualification or are being recruited for athletics or other academy goals. Listen to Colonel Batchelder's description of pre candidates offered West Point SLS:
4) Within the next 10 days….
"We will be making selections throughout the application period. However, we will not fill all the slots until after final selections are done, approximately one week after the application deadline."
We will be making selections throughout the application period. However, we will not fill all the slots until after final selections are done, approximately one week after the application deadline.
See Dates, Cost and Selection:
5) Chances at Summer Seminar will be significantly higher if being recruited for athletics or other academy goals. Suggest also applying to West Point SLS and Usna Summer Seminar which is best chance. Also, Coast Guard AIM and all rotc scholarships.
It helps to understand the three tiered nature of competition for an appointment to a service academy that uses nominations:
1)National competition for an LOA(Letter of Assurance)=Direct Admits
2)Competition within a candidates nominating sources.
3)Competition among fully qualified candidates for declined offers of appointment, strictly according to whole candidate scores= competition among waitlisted candidates
Competition beyond the first round of national competition for an LOA requires a nomination from some source, and to transform an LOA into an appointment but that usually takes care of itself as the academy congressional liaison office notifies the MOC(Member of Congress=pre candidates rep and senators) of the pre candidates LOA even before notifying the pre candidate. Appointments on LOA's are not charged off to the nominating MOC. The MOC is also kept well informed of the whole candidate scores of the pre candidates who have applied to the MOC for a nomination even of the pre candidates medical status for flight school.
Each MOC can have five Cadets he nominated and were charged off to him at at Usafa at any point in time. For each vacancy due to graduation or otherwise, he can nominate 10 candidates to compete for the appointment. Candidates earning an LOA who accept an offer of appointment are not charged off to the nominating MOC as one of his five cadets. There are usually around 500 offers of declined appointments to waitlisted candidates during the third round of national competition among waitlisted candidates. The competition is strictly according to whole candidate scores. Appointments to waitlisted candidates are not charged off to the MOC. If there are any questions about the above, let me know.
Good Luck!
